Sister Marie Bernadette Rogers CSC

SOUTH BEND - Sister Marie Bernadette (Mildred Judy Rogers), CSC, 69, was born Aug. 11, 1939, to the late Jay Alexander Rogers and Mildred Miles Rogers. She is survived by her sisters, Kay Hamilton of Salt Lake City and Pat (Richard) Deitrich of Sandy, UT; and a brother, Mark Rogers of Dresden, OH. Sister was preceded by five of her siblings. Sister's many friends will miss her joyful presence. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1957 and trained as a teacher. She earned her bachelor degree in elementary education at Saint Mary of the Wasatch in 1967 and, through summer classes and time spent at the University of San Francisco, CA, earned her master's in education. Over the next 21 years Sister taught elementary school in Idaho, Utah, California, Arizona and Washington State. She was principal in two schools: St. Agnes for eight years and St. Matthew's for four years, both in California. After all her years of teaching, Sister was next involved with community services/social work with the Holy Cross Ministries and Catholic Community Services, Salt Lake City, UT. She then became director of the Holy Cross Welcome Center for Women in Salt Lake City. Because of health needs, Sister Maria Bernadette moved into a transition phase in Murray, UT, until she returned to Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, IN, in 2006.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556. Reception of the Body will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
