Louis J. Rokop (Nov. 30, 1919 -- March 26, 2005)

Louis J. Rokop, 85, of Kern Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005 in Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Rokop retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation. He also had been employed by Curtis Wright and Studebaker. Louis was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 284. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed working in the garden and landscaping. Louis also had been affiliated with Our Lady of Hungary Church.

He was born on Nov. 30, 1919, in South Bend, to Louis and Rose (Szabo) Rokop. On Feb. 23, 1946, in South Bend, he married the former Julia Uyhelji, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Rebecca (Chris) Holdaas of Port Orchard, Wash.; two grandchildren, Julie Dean and David Bickel; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Dean and Tyler Dean; three sisters, Rose Racz of Stevensville, Mich., Anne Claus of Redmond, Wash., and Elizabeth "Liz" Kent of Janesville, Wis.; and two brothers, Frank Rokop and Steve (Joan) Rokop, both of South Bend.

Louis was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rokop; and two brothers, Ignatius Rokop and Joseph Rokop.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2005, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today, March 28, in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church or to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
