Dominick G. Romeo

Dominick G. Romeo, age 78, of West 87th Street, in Merrillville, Indiana, passed away at his residence on November 7, 2001 of natural causes. Mr. Romeo was born February 28,1923, to Frank and Mary (Perry) Romeo in Anderson, Indiana. Shortly thereafter, the Romeo family moved to Mishawaka, Indiana where Dominick spent many years.

 

On April 12, 1950, Dominick married the former Ms. Mary Jane Babbitt in Mishawaka. She survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Lynnea Gehring and her husband, Richard of Alexandria, Virginia; a brother, Frank Romeo of Mishawaka, Indiana, and a sister, Betty (Romeo) Haas of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, along with two nieces and 7 nephews. Mr. Romeo was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2001 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, Indiana 46551, where a prayer dedication will be held at 5 p.m. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. by Pastor Rick Romeo of Riverside Covenant Church of West Lafayette on Monday, November 12, 2001, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where Military rites will be performed by VFW Post #360 of Mishawaka.

 

Mr. Romeo was a graduate of Mishawaka High School class of 1942. In 1943, he was inducted into the Army where he served his country in Africa and Italy. When he returned to the United States, he volunteered for overseas service again, and went back to France, Germany and Austria before being honorably discharged in 1945. Mr. Romeo was a member of the VFW post #54 in Hobart, Indiana. Dominick was employed as a District Manger of Catalog Sales for 20 years with the Montgomery Ward's Department Store. His office was based in Chicago, Illinois, but Mr. Romeo traveled several states in his profession. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
