James A. Rosander

SOUTH BEND - James A. Rosander, 77, formerly of North Allen Street, passed away at 7:08 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17th, in Hospice House. James was born February 9, 1931, in South Bend, to the late Otto W. and Marie Elizabeth (Ozdyc) Rosander. On June 26, 1954, in St. Patrick's Church, James married Shirley Ann (Smith), who survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Cathryn (John) Lawson of South Bend and Caryn Rosander of Newark, NJ; two sons, James A. Rosander II of Albany, NY, and John W. (Linda) Rosander of Troy, MI; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Lindsey, Jaclyn and Brandon Tabor, David, Adam, Mitchell, James III, Peter and Julia Rosander; two great-grandchildren, Geneva and Anja Tabor; two sisters, Charlotte Smith and Phyllis Nozykowski, both of South Bend; two brothers, Loren (Dee) Rosander of Mishawaka and Darwin "Dike" Rosander of South Bend. He was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Shepherd, and a brother, Roland Rosander. James proudly served his country with the United States Marines from 1950 to 1953. He retired from Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center as a painter for 35 years. Our angel on earth has been called to become our guardian angel in heaven. He was our gift from God. A true gentleman. He was a member of VFW #360, a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge, and had been a Boy Scout leader.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22nd, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend, with Rev. Donald Francis officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, with graveside military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. In James' memory, contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to American Cancer Society, 601 W. Edison, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
