SOUTH BEND - Shirley Ann Rosander, 73, formerly of North Allen Street, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in the Hospice House, South Bend. Shirley was born February 3, 1935, in South Bend, to the late Dorothy L. (Austin) and Bernard F. Smith. On June 26, 1954, in St. Patrick's Church, as Shirley Ann Smith, she married James A. Rosander, who preceded her in death on August 17, 2008. Shirley was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Jaronick; and a brother, Fredrich James Smith. Surviving Shirley are two daughters, Cathryn (John) Lawson of South Bend and Caryn Rosander of Newark, NJ; two sons, James A. Rosander II of Albany, NY, and John W. (Linda) Rosander of Troy, MI; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Lindsey, Jaclyn and Brandon Tabor, David, Adam, Mitchel, James III, Peter and Julia Rosander; and two great-grandchildren, Geneva and Anja Tabor; and a sister, Catherine J. Joyce-Kelley of South Bend. Our angel on earth has been called to become our guardian angel in heaven. She was a gift from God. A true lady. She was a nurse at Saint Joseph Medical Center, was a member of VFW Post 360, and was a Girl Scout leader where she was known as "Twinkle Toes."

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend, with Rev. Donald Francis officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
