Roman Rozanski

June 6, 1918 - July 23, 2002

Roman Rozanski, 84, of Sun Bridge Care and Rehabilitation, Elkhart, Ind., passed away Tuesday, July 23, in the nursing home. Roman was born on June 6, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Walter A. and Cecilia Rozanski. He was employed by the former Studebaker Corporation, R.E.A. Express and Torrington of South Bend.

 

On Nov. 22, 1945, Roman married Mary Fujawa, who preceded him in death on Sept. 9, 1999. He was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers. He is survived by his daughters, Kim (Gary) Jay of Paw Paw, Mich., Ruth (John) Benko of South Bend and Evelyn (John) Rudd of Longmont, Colo.; grandchildren, Zachary Hagquist, Kathy Jo Benko and Joseph (Bobbie Jo) Rudd; a great-grandson, Dillon Rudd; and by his sister, Amanda Swartz of South Bend.

 

Roman was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, graduated from Washington High School, and served in the Army during World War II in North Africa. He was a prisoner of war (P.O.W.), and received the Purple Heart.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 25, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, in St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors.
