Stephen Rozow Jr.

May 13, 1948 - Jan. 16, 2009

NORTH WEBSTER - Stephen Rozow Jr., 60, of North Webster, IN, formerly of the South Bend and Mishawaka area, passed away Friday, January 16, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. Mr. Rozow was born on May 13, 1948, in South Bend, and resided in the North Webster area for the past 30 years, coming from Mishawaka, IN.   On June 15, 1958, he married the former Marguerite A. Blankert, who passed away on March 6, 1996. On January 6, 1998, he married the former Carolyn S. Huffman, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Christine A. (Brad) Troutman of North Webster; two sons, Stephen (Heidi) Rozow III of Milford, IN, and Scott P. (Christy) Rozow of Mishawaka; two stepdaughters, Renee Hieth of Columbia City, IN, and Kristie Scott of Niles, MI; two sisters, Maria Morelli of Sugar Grove, IL, and Diane Darnell of South Bend, IN; also 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who he loved and cherished. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Alice (Lehman) Rozow Sr.; and a stepson, Eric Sinney, who passed away on Feb. 21, 1997.   At the time of his death, Mr. Rozow was the chief custodian at Syracuse Elementary School. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, receiving the National Defense Service Award, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, and the combat infantry badge. Mr. Rozow was very proud to have served his country during a time of war. He was a member of Syracuse VFW Post 342. He was an honorable man, who was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always placed his family first. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and all who had the opportunity to know him during his life journey. He was a man who loved everybody and all the little ones he got to know at the school. He loved working with wood and was well-known throughout the Michiana are for his fine wood workings.   The family request, in lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the Wawasee School Corporation to assist the needy children for higher education. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, in the Hanley & Sons Funeral Home "Walkerton Chapel," located at 1216 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, IN. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, with Fr. David Porterfield officiating. Burial to follow at the North Webster Cemetery. The HANLEY & Sons Funeral Home "Walkerton Chapel" handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Rozow family.
