Sister Marion Ruidl CSC

Sister Marion Ruidl (Sister M. Bartholomew) CSC, 78, was born in Jefferson, Wis., to George John Ruidl and Clara Agnes Bowden Ruidl. She attended public school in Wisconsin and the Diploma Program in Nursing, Milwaukee, Wis.

 

Sister worked in nursing until she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, February 1948. She made her first profession August 1950 and final profession August 1953. In 1951 she earned her bachelor of science in nursing at Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Ind.; 1957 her master's degree in nursing administration from Saint Louis University, Saint Louis, Mo.; and 1962, her master's degree in theology from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame. Sister began her nursing in the Congregation at St. Joseph's Hospital, South Bend, 1950, where she taught in the school of nursing. She then was missioned to Mt. Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, 1951, where she was in supervision and nursing service administration. In 1954 she went to Anderson, Ind., where she was director of nursing at St. John's Hospital. Sister returned to Saint Mary's College as chairman of the Department of Nursing, 1957-1962.

 

In 1961 Sister was at St. Joseph Hospital where she taught operating room technique and in 1963 was named director of the Holy Cross School of Nursing. Her next move, 1970, was to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she was director of the Holy Cross School of Nursing. Returning to the Midwest, Sister Marion was in health services for Saint Mary's College Rome Program, and spent 1973-1975 in Rome, Italy. When she returned to the States, Sister went to Columbus, Ohio, to work in adult education at Mount Carmel Hospital. In 1976 she became the director of the Student Heath Center, University of Notre Dame. Sister was engaged in parish ministry at Christ the King Parish, South Bend, from 1983 until 1985, after which she went to Lourdes Convent, Saint Mary's, to be in ministry to the Institute in Holy Cross Shared Services, Campus Services and Holy Cross Services Corporation.

 

Sister is survived by nieces, Christine Baar and Denise Braner; and cousins, Phyllis Pease and Gerald Behwke, all in Wisconsin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.

 

Wake services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, in the Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Church of Loretto, Notre Dame. The Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, is handling arrangements.
