Robert Ray Runyan

SOUTH BEND - Robert Ray Runyan, 80, formerly of South Bend, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, in Arlington, VA, under the care of Capital Hospice.

 

He was born in Farrar, IA, and moved to South Bend in 1950. He was a timekeeper at the Bendix Corp. for 35 years. He moved to Pinellas Park, Florida, in 1989 and Arlington, VA, in 2006. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 284, since 1960, and served four terms as commander and one term as 3rd district commander. He was a veteran of WWII after serving in the U.S. Navy. He was Methodist. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Norma Jean. Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Brezinski, South Bend, Debra Murray, Saline, MI, and Stefanie Hume, Arlington, VA; a son, Edward Runyan, Oak Park, IL; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

His ashes will be buried alongside his wife's on May 23, 2008, at Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines, FL.
