Leon R. “Rich” Rusinek

SOUTH BEND - Leon R. “Rich” Rusinek, 78, of South Bend, died at 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2007, in Porter Hospital, Valparaiso, IN, while visiting his daughter. Rich was born May 11, 1928, to the late Joseph and Mary (Matusak) Rusinek. Also preceding him in death are one sister, Agnes Zack and two brothers, Edward A. and Thomas D. Rusinek.

On February 19, 1955, in Mishawaka, Rich married Marion C. Verhamme. Marion survives along with one daughter, Carol Rusinek of Valparaiso, IN; one sister, Loretta Lesniewski of Schererville, IN, and one brother, Stan Rusinek of Jacksonville, FL.

Rich was a truck driver for Atlantic-Richfield for 30 years, retiring in 1983. After his retirement, he worked for several years at Notre Dame for Adams-Remco as a copy service repair technician. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War.

The family received friends on Wednesday in Hahn Funeral Home. Funeral services for Rich were held Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with the Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Hahn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations may be sent to the Indiana University Foundation in care of the Schurz Library.
