Rev. James J. Ryan CSC, 69, assistant pastor at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 1955-1956, died Saturday in Holy Cross House at the University of Notre Dame. He was born on Aug. 3, 1897 in New York City and entered the Congregation of Holy Cross on July 18, 1920. He was ordained on June 17, 1925. He returned to the Holy Cross House In 1965, coming from New Orleans, where he was chaplain at Holy Cross High School.

 

Besides Holy Cross Parish He had been stationed at Notre Dame: Msgr. Coyle High School, Taunton, Mass.; Sacred Heart Parish, New Orleans; St. Edward’s University, Austin, Tex., and Nazareth (Mich.) College. Most of his fife had been spent teaching and as chaplain at various institutions. He is survived by two cousins.

 

The Office of the Dead will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church, University of Notre Dame, and be followed by by mass. Burial will be in Community Cemetery at Notre Dame. Friends may call at Corby Hall Chapel, Notre Dame, after 1 p.m. Monday.
