Matthew J. Rzepka: (South Bend Tribune 5/9/2002)


June 26, 1979 - May 2, 2002 Matthew James Rzepka, 22, of Bowling Green, Ky., died at 1:30 a.m. (CST) on Thursday, May 2, in the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Matt was born in South Bend, Ind., and moved to Bowling Green when he was eight years old. His parents, Sam and Tina Rzepka, survive him along with a younger brother, Justin. Matt's maternal grandparents are Jim and Teri Deka from Edwardsburg, Mich., and his paternal grandparents are Clem and Elaine Rzepka from South Bend. Matt graduated from Greenwood High School in 1997, playing three years of baseball and four years of football. He was also the quarterback for the Bowling Green Blitz, a semi-pro football team. He umpired and refereed for Warren County Parks for the last 10 years. He was employed by The House of Fitness, and also worked at the After School Program at Cumberland Trace Elementary School. Matt was in his senior year at Western Kentucky University. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Spirit Church, with burial at the Bowling Green Gardens Cemetery on Lovers Lane. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in Holy Spirit Church. Contributions may be made to the Matt Rzepka Fund at Cumberland Trace Elementary School to be used for the children in their After School Program.

June 26, 1979-May 2, 2002 SOUTH BEND – Memorial services for Matthew James Rzepka, 22 of Bowling Green, Ky., formerly of South Bend, who died at 1:30 a.m. May 2 at University of Kentucky Hospital, Lexington, Ky., will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, New Carlisle. J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Chapel, Bowling Green, hanlded arrangements. Matthew died after a fall from a third-floor window at the University of Kentucky, Lexington.
