Winifred C. Sackman

Winifred "Winnie" C. Sackman, 85, of Kent Lane, South Bend, died at 2:06 p.m. Thursday, June 22, in Hospice House, South Bend. She was born on July 5, 1914, to the late Ethel (Hickman) and Henry Worsham in Mentone, Ind. She had lived in the South Bend area since she was twenty years old, moving here from Mentone.

 

On June 2, 1935, in South Bend as Winifred Worsham, she married Leroy Sackman, who preceded her in death on October 27, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Elmer "Bud" Worsham. Mrs. Sackman is survived by a son, Carl H. (Shirley) Sackman of Vicksburg, MI; three grandchildren, Susan (Steve) Kandes, William (Dawn) Sackman, and Annette (John) Stopchinski; five great grandchildren, Stephenie and Nicholas Kandes, Megan Sackman, and Jacob and Gregory Stopchinski; a sister, Virginia VanderMeer of Carmel, New York; a brother, Morris A. (Oleen) Worsham of Gig Harbor, Washington; and by a sister in law, Evelyn Worsham of Kalamazoo, Mich.

 

Mrs. Sackman had worked part time in sales in area shops. She was a lifetime member of River Park United Methodist Church, South Bend, she was a Charter Officer and 50 year member as well as past Worthy Matron of the Rose Croix Chapter #575 of the Order of Eastern Star, she was a member of South Bend Chapter #2 of the Order of Eastern Star which now has affiliated with the Lakeville Chapter #479 of the Order of Eastern Star, and has received the Grand Cross of Color from Rainbow.

 

Services for Mrs. Sackman will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 North William St., South Bend. Brother Steve Nani C.S.C. of Hospice will conduct the funeral services. Friends may call from 2 - 6 p.m. Sunday, in the funeral home, where an Order of Eastern Star Service will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, Indiana.
