John Leslie Sailors

John Leslie Sailors, of 1425 E. Wayne St., president of the Admiral Furniture Inc., 50981 U. S. 31, died this morning in his residence after an illness of three years. He was born in LaFontaine, Ind., July 1, 1885, and had lived in South Bend 20 years.

 

On June 9, 1909, in South Bend, he was married to Alma Muessel, who survives. Mr. Sailors was one of the founders of the Sailors Bros. Furniture Co., which had stores in South Bend, Kokomo and Terre Haute, Ind. He was the first president of the Home Outfitters Store which was started in 1920. The Admiral Furniture Store Inc. opened in 1938. He was active in the business until two years ago.

 

Other survivors are one son, Robert E., of South Bend; two daughters, Mrs. G. R. Wray, of South Bend, and Mrs. C. H. East, of Bloomington, Ind.; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Sailors was a member of First Presbyterian Church, South Bend Lodge 294, F.&A.M., the South Bend Country Club and the Indiana Club. Friends may call after noon Thursday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home.

SAILORS - Funeral services for John Leslie Sailors, 1425 E. Wayne St., who died Wednesday, will take place at 2 p.m. Friday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel W. Fowler, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

 

Pallbearers will be W. H. Bruner, R. Floyd Searer, W. C. Sparks, H. L. Cramer Sr., R. H. Murdock and Robert A. Grant.

Members of South Bend Lodge 294, F. & A. M. will be in charge of graveside rites.

 

Editor: His wife Alma died June 28, 1989 at the age of 100.
