Rev. Peter D. Sandanato CSC, 53, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday at Notre Dame High School, Niles, Ill. after an unexpected illness.. Born March 17, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He entered the Congregation of the Holy Cross on Aug. 15, 1945. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1950 and did theological studies at Holy Cross College, Washington DC, receiving his ordination to the priesthood on June 9, 1954 in Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame.

 

He was a teacher at Columbia Preparatory School at Portland, Oregon from 1954 to 1955, and from 1955 until his death at Notre Dame High School for Boys, Niles, Ill. where he was also religious superior of the Holy Cross Community from 1973 to 1976. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Josephine Sandanato of Pittsburgh, a sister Mrs. Rose Fournier of Deerfield, Ill., and a brother Joseph, also of Pittsburgh.

 

Following services at Notre Dame High School tonight, he will be brought back to South Bend for services at 11 a.m. Saturday in Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame. Rev. Robert H. Moss CSC, superior of Notre Dame High School will officiate. Rev. Thomas M. Markos CSC, principal of the school will deliver the homily. Burial will be in the Community Cemetery of the Notre Dame campus. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Friday in Moreau Seminary Chapel, where a wake service will be observed at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
