Huston Lovest Sanders Jr.

In loving memory of Huston Lovest Sanders Jr., who passed away Nov. 15, 2001. He was born in South Bend, Ind., in 1948 to Huston Lovest Sanders Sr. and Estella (Weatherspoon) Sanders, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Scruggs; and by two brothers, Lawrence and Louis Scruggs.

 

He leaves behind two daughters, Tiffany Nicole Sanders of Chicago, Ill., and Monique Charmaine Sanders of Hartford, Conn.; four sisters, Maxine Dorn of Cincinnati, Ohio, Wajihah Sabir of Atlanta, Ga., Gerri Flowers and Jean Dunn of South Bend; three brothers, Leonard Scruggs of Miami, Fla., Herbert and Dwight Sanders of South Bend.

 

Huston attended Central High School and was a lettered athlete in football and wrestling, graduating in 1967. He joined the Marines and served in Vietnam, losing his legs to a land mine in 1969. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service. Unfortunately, Huston passed away from lung cancer, caused by agent orange. May he rest with God. He leaves behind a host of relatives and friends in South Bend and Oceanside, Calif., where he resided 25 years.

 

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Alford's Mortuary, where arrangements have been entrusted.
