Ernest J. Sarmer

Ernest J. Sarmer, 89, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, January 8, 2006, in Regency Place Nursing Home.

Mr. Sarmer retired from Mastic Corporation. He was born on July 30, 1916, in Akron, Ohio, to Ernest and Justina (Milvicz) Sarmer. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was in the invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach, serving in the 4th Infantry Division, 8th Regiment Service Group.

Surviving are a sister, Rose Kedik of Melbourne, FL; a brother, Joseph (Mary) Sarmer of Des Moines, WA; and eight nieces and nephews, Joseph J. Sarmer, Rina M. Sarmer-Konkel, John A. Sarmer, Stephan T. Sarmer, Mary Ellen Sarmer-Schoch, George Kedik, Margaret Mary Nemethy and Mary Rose Issacs.

Ernest was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Sarmer, and a brother-in-law, Mike Kedik.

Per Ernest's request, there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be at noon Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, is handling the arrangements.
