Robert Franklin Sass

March 2, 1928 - Feb. 6, 1999

Mr. Robert Franklin Sass, 70, loving father and grandfather of U.S. 12 East, Niles, Mich., passed away following a brief illness at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind.

On March 2, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., he was born to the union of Otto and Lydia Ann Sass, who both preceded him in death. Coming from Chicago, he moved to South Bend in 1938.

 

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Joyce Eva Rae on March 20, 1948, in South Bend. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn McGaughy.

 

He was a truck driver for the South Bend Drug Company for over 35 years. He retired from Petersen Graphics in 1998 after 11 years of service. He was a member of the Calvary Temple Church. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his loving memory two daughters, Geneva Williams and Julia Jefferies; two sons, Edward (Peggy) Smith, all of South Bend, and Clarence Green of Chicago; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; six sisters, Viola (John) Fleenoy and Lisa (Eugene) Hale, both of Chicago, Attibe (Bob) Davis and Laura Jackson, both of Toledo, Ohio, Doris (Bethel) Mailey of Washington, D.C., Louise Harris of Minneapolis, Minn.; two brothers, John T. (Joyce) Coffey of South Bend and James (Earlene) Coffey of Robbins, Ill.; along with two aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Calvary Temple Church, South Bend. There will be no visitation.  Alford's Mortuary is in charge of handling arrangements.
