WALKERTON — Leo F. Savoie, 83, of 128 Clark Street, Walkerton, Ind., passed away Friday, June 14, in Miller's Merry Manor, Walkerton.

Leo was born May 30, 1919, in Dryburg, Mich., to Edmond and Lucy Savoie, and lived in Walkerton for 51 years, coming from Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by three brothers, August, Homer and Fred.

On Sept. 5, 1942, in Dryburg, he was married to Helen Forrest, who survives, He is also survived by five daughters, Judy (Robert) Loucks of North Liberty, Ind., JoAnn (Dennis) Traub of Walkerton, Sharon (Frank) Farner of Clinton, Miss., Cindy (Wayne) Capron of Plymouth, Ind., and Jill (Rod) Cross of Noblesville, Ind.; three sons, Lanny (Lynn) Savoie of Newbury Park, Calif., Leo (Sandy) Savoie of Plymouth and Brian (Barbara) Savoie of Goshen, Ind.; two sisters, Sister Lucy Savoie, SSJ, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Sister Mary Savoie, SSJ, of Kansas City, Mo.; five brothers, Henry Savoie of Brimley, Mich., Phil Savoie of Gaylord, Mich., Clem Savoie of Rudyard, Mich., Ronald Savoie of Walkerton and Peter Savoie of Fenton, Mich.; and by 29 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Leo was a member of St. Patrick's Church of Walkerton, was the 1969 Catholic Layman of the Year, was a lifetime 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus 5709 of Walkerton, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was a member of Walkerton American Legion Post #189 and the North Liberty VFW. He was a self-employed contractor with Savoie Construction of Walkerton.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick's Church in Walkerton. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, with a Rosary service being held at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton, with a military graveside service being conducted by Walkerton American Legion Post #189.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Patrick's School.
