Nellie M. Scaife

SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Nellie Mae Scaife, 78, who resided on Greenwood Drive, South Bend, Indiana, passed from this life at 8:08 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, in Rivercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka, IN. Nellie Mae was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, on May 18, 1931, to Alfred and Maggie (Johnson) Lintz. She was reared in Arkansas and on December 24, 1945, in Marvell, Arkansas, she and Fred Scaife were united in marriage. In 1993, coming form Marvell, the family relocated to South Bend. Also in 1993, Mrs. Scaife retired as a nurse's aide after 30 years of employment. Mrs. Scaife was a member of New Hope Church Ministry and served on the Mothers Board. She also loved to cook. Love ones who are left to cherish her memory include her husband, Fred Scaife; four daughters, Wanda Jarrett of Los Angels, CA, Gail Sylvester of Milwaukee, WI, Valerie (Martin) Turner of Indianapolis, IN, and Prophetess Sandra (Charles) Stubbs of South Bend, IN; seven sons, Larry (Darnella) Scaife of Los Angeles, CA, Fred (Grace) Scaife Jr., and Danny (Cassie) Scaife of Milwaukee, WI, Conley (Paula) Scaife and Pastor Michael (Elaine) Scaife of Indianapolis, IN, and Ray (Dorothy) Scaife and Terry Scaife of South Bend, IN; 27 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bobbie Crenshaw and Maldon (Gene) Mallet of Chicago, IL, and Patricia Jackson of Texas; four brothers, Andrew Lintz, Gene Lintz and Alfred Lintz, all of Texas, and Howard (Thelma) Young of Chicago, IL; along with other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death along with her parents, Alfred and Maggie Lintz, were a son, Maurice Scaife, and a sister, Elnora Hale; and five brothers, William Lentz, Woodrow Lentz, Willie Dunlap, Nathan Young Jr., and Grady Lentz. A special thanks to great-granddaughter, Rackeshia Ware, and special friend, Claudia Watford. Funeral services for Mrs. Scaife will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010, in New Hope Baptist Church, with Bishop Orlando Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Gardens, Granger, IN.
