Dorothy M. Scheibelhut

May 21, 1921 -- April 19, 2003

                                       

Dorothy M. Scheibelhut, 81, of Berry, Ala., and formerly of Mishawaka, Ind., went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 19.

She was born on May 24, 1921, in South Bend, Ind., a daughter of the late Charles and Tillie (Nordblad) Radican. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Kay Scheibelhut; her husband, Dick; a brother, Charles Radican; and by an infant sister.

Dorothy grew up in South Bend and graduated from Riley High School. During her life she attended college classes in the area. On May 11, 1946, she married Richard C. Scheibelhut, and they settled in Mishawaka where they raised their family. Dorothy primarily was a homemaker but did work for several years in food service with Mishawaka schools. Her faith was an important part of her life and she was a longtime member of St. Monica Catholic Church for many years. Dorothy was an active part of a local ladies bridge club as well as bowling in a league. She also enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and was an avid reader. Dorothy relocated to Alabama in 2001 to be near her daughter, Barbara.

Dorothy's family was the center of her life. They included two daughters, Suzanne Scheibelhut of Niles, Mich., and Barbara (Ray) Ingle of Berry; four sons, Gregory (Sue) Scheibelhut of South Bend, David Scheibelhut of Mishawaka, Mark (Deborah) Scheibelhut of Auburn, Ind., and Tom (Terry) Scheibelhut of Niles; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and by several in-laws.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka, with Rev. Fr. James Stoyle officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Monica Church or to the Sisters of St. Francis.
