MISHAWAKA - Richard A. Scheibelhut Sr., 94, of Mishawaka, passed away of natural causes in the Fountainview Place Nursing Home, Mishawaka, on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008. Richard was born January 29, 1914, to the late August and Clara B. (Waffle) Scheibelhut in Mishawaka, Indiana. On February 3, 1934, Richard was united in marriage to the former Ms. Addie "Lucy" Jennings in Granger, Indiana. His wife of 73 years preceded him in death, passing away in August 2007. Surviving are his children, Richard A. "Bud" (Mary Ann) Scheibelhut Jr. of Cassopolis, Michigan, John D. (Jane) Scheibelhut of Denton, Texas, Mary A. (Don) Copper of Niles, Michigan, Jean C. Johnson of South Bend, Nancy L. (Larry) Wolfe and Vicki (Ed) Filley, both of Mishawaka, Indiana. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Richard was preceded in death by his siblings, Francis Scheibelhut and Rita Klaer, as well as two grandchildren, Randy Johnson and Ronald Johnson, and his great-grandchild, Jaxon Scheibelhut. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola, with a Rosary to be held at 4:30 p.m.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by Rev. Daniel Scheidt at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Richard was employed by the Uniroyal Corporation for over 40 years, retiring in 1973. In his spare time Richard enjoyed woodworking, working in his garden and barn, traveling with his wife, and spending the winters in Bradenton, Florida. Richard was also an avid Cubs and Notre Dame fan. Mr. Scheibelhut was also a longtime member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
