South Bend – Sister M. Magddalita Scheiber CSC, 88, of Saint Mary’s Convent, Notre Dame, died in her residence at 9:55 p.m. Monday. She was born Nov. 22, 1902 in Tiffin, Ohio as Mary Elizabeth Scheiber.

She entered the convent July 2, 1922; was received as a novice Jan. 6, 1923; and professed hers vows Aug. 15, 1925. She is survived by a cousin, Sister M. Monica CSC, of South Bend. She was a graduate of Saint Mary’s College, receiving both bachelor’s and master’s degrees and did post-graduate studies at Catholic University of America. She was assigned to secondary education schools in Indiana and Illinois and at Saint Mary’s College from 1939 to 1955; and from 1962 to 1970, at St. Mary’s Academy. In 1979 she was assigned to parish work in Spring Valley, Ill., until retiring in 1977.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Church of Loretto, St. Mary’s. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s. Friends may call in the convent parlors, where a wake will be hled at 7 p.m. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor.
