South Bend Tribune 9/9/2008
OSCEOLA - William J. Schieber, 66, of Osceola, Indiana, passed away following a sudden heart attack on Saturday, September 6, 2008, in his home. Bill was born July 18, 1942, to Arnel J. and Frances (Gibson) Schieber in Mishawaka, Indiana. They preceded him in death. On July 3, 1965, Bill married the love of his life, the former Alyce "Jean" Gardner, in Mishawaka. He was also the love of her life. She survives. Surviving as well are his boys, John and his wife, Kris Schieber of Osceola, Jason and his wife, Tanya Schieber of Osceola, with whom he enjoyed sharing his hobbies; and his little girl, Lisa, and her husband, Timothy Farinella of Plymouth. Bill "PAPA" is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; along with three brothers, David Schieber of Constantine, Michigan, Alan Schieber of Lakeville, Indiana, and Gary Schieber of Mishawaka; and a sister, Nancy Ellingson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Bill spent his last day with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. The time was made even more special when Bill started a campfire in the woods so they could roast hot dogs and make S'mores. Bill worked for the railroad for a number of years until his retirement as a switch and signal maintainer. He was a member of the NRA and an avid hunter and gunsmith. Bill loved to play the organ. One of his many favorites was "My River of Memories." His family was his whole life. He used to tell each of his nieces they each were his favorite until they each found out. Bill was the best husband, father, grandfather "PAPA" and friend to all. He was not capable of saying anything bad about anyone. We will all miss him dearly until we are all together in Heaven one day.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola. There will also be one hour of calling prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, September 11, 2008, in Chapel Hill. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
