Marvin L. Schindler

March 19, 1931 - Jan. 11, 2003

Marvin Louis Schindler, 71, of Johnson Street, South Bend, Ind., died unexpectedly in his residence on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Mr. Schindler was born March 19, 1931, in South Bend, to the late Clement J. and Ella (Nimtz) Schindler, and was a lifetime area resident. He is survived by two sons, Marvin L. "Tuffy" Schindler and Mark L. "Pete" Schindler, both of South Bend; five grandchildren, Marvin L. Schindler III, Tiffany and Victoria Schindler, and Sieairre A. and Samantha B. Gray; and by two sisters, Bette Owen of South Bend and Mardell (Chuck) Norton of Surprise, Ariz.

Marv retired as an officer from the South Bend Police department in 1973 after 20 years service. He then was employed as a desk sergeant for the Mishawaka Police Department and also worked for security at Riley High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of F.O.P. Lodge #36 and American Legion Post 50, both in South Bend. He also loved to hunt and fish anytime the opportunity presented itself.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street. Cremation will follow at Michiana Crematory. Friends may call from 4 until the time of service in the funeral home.
