Rev. Albert L. Schitzer CSC, 83, died early today at Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, after an illness. He was born Sept. 23, 1903 in Rochester, NY. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame with burial in Community Cemetery, on the campus. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

 

Rev. Schitzer entered Holy Cross Seminary, Notre Dame in 1922; professed his vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1926; and was ordained to the priesthood on Feb. 2, 1935. After ordination he taught at Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame; Holy Cross College, Washington DC; and the University of Notre Dame until 1956. From 1956 to 1959 he was pastor at Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, and then Pius X, Granger, Ind. He returned to the department of theology at Notre Dame in 1959, later serving as chairman of the department. He retired from the University in 1972 with the title of professor emeritus. From 1972 tp 1983 he assisted at various parishes in Florida during his retirement.
