Leila M. Schlarb

Jan. 28, 1912 - March 24, 1999

Leila M. Schlarb, 87, of 65801 State Road 331, died at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

She was born on Jan. 28, 1912, near Wyatt, Ind., to Fred and Sylvia (Felton) Hawkins, and was a lifelong area resident. She spent winters in Lake Worth, Fla.

On July 31, 1938, she married William Schlarb, who preceded her in death in 1996. Together they operated Farmer Bill's Fruit and Vegetable Markets for 40 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Simons of Bremen, Ind.; a granddaughter, Darla Simons of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a grandson, Ron Simons and his wife, Jane of Wyatt; a great grandson, Jimmy Simons of Wyatt; a brother, Woodrow Hawkins of Elkhart, Ind.; and nineteen nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Bauman; and by two brothers, Richard and Harris Hawkins.

Family and friends may call at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John United Church of Christ, Woodland, Ind. Rev. Ken Seiffertt will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. John Cemetery.
