WALKERTON - Louis E. Schmeltz, 69, of
1096 Georgia St., died at 6:20 p.m. Thursday in his home after an
illness. Mr. Schmeltz was a retired farmer and truck driver. He
was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Polk Township, Marshall County.
On March 18, 1945, in Bremen, he married
Lucille I. Forsythe. She survives with two daughters,
Bonnie Stephenson of Plymouth and Doris Schmeltz at home;
two sons, Glenn of North Liberty and Dale of New Carlisle; five
grandchildren; a sister, Bernice O'Daffer of South Bend;
and a brother, Cecil of Plymouth. A son, Jerry, preceded him in
death. He was affiliated with Walkerton Baptist Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in
Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and after 10
a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be
made to Visiting Nurse Association or St. Joseph County Hospice.
