Russell Lowell Schooler Jr.

MISHAWAKA - Mr. Russell Lowell Schooler Jr., 83, of Park Place (The Waterford), passed away at 5:00 p.m. Monday with all his children by his side in Dujarie House at Holy Cross Village where according to his children "he received the most wonderful care from the entire staff." Russell was born on February 9, 1925, in Whitestown, IN, to the late Russell L. Sr. and Dorothy (Laughner) Schooler.

 

He was married to Alice Jean Roop on August 9, 1947, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Decatur, IN. She passed away on September 15, 1992. He retired in April 1992 from Centex Homes in Hoffman Estates, IL, where he was a draftsman. He moved to Mishawaka three years ago. Mr. Schooler is survived by a daughter, Janet R. (David A.) Rivers of Waynetown, IN; four sons, Fr. William C. Schooler of Granger, Edward J. (Mary V.) Schooler of Catlin, IL, and Tony R. (Kristi) Schooler of Bartlett, IL. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Chris, Tracy, Matt, Adam, Ben, Shannon and Jeff; and a great-granddaughter, Bayleigh. Mr. Schooler was preceded in death by a son, Tom, who died in 1983 at the age of 21, an infant daughter, Mary Ann, who died in 1949, as well as a brother, Charles O. Schooler. Russell graduated from Lebanon High School, served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II, and was a member of St. Pius X Parish where his son, Fr. Bill, is the pastor.

 

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) in St. Pius X Catholic Church (Fir & SR 23), Granger, IN, where there will be a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by a celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. (EST) Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur. In lieu of flowers (during Lent), the family requests memorial donations be made in his honor to the St. Pius X Building Fund.
