Gene L. Schrader

NORTH LIBERTY, IND. — Gene L. "Tater" Schrader, 74 years old, residing on Taylors Way in North Liberty, passed away at 10:26 p.m. on Monday, December 31, 2001, at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Schrader was born on August 25, 1927, in North Liberty, to the late Ernest and Edna (McBride) Schrader. He lived in California for 26 years, returning to North Liberty 2 years ago.

 

On April 25, 1953, in Yuma, AZ, he married Lally Gotti, who preceded in death on October 25, 1988. On August 25, 1990, in North Liberty, he married Celia Cravens, who survives. Along with his wife, Celia, survivors include two sisters, Jeanette Jackson and Millie (Alan) Kaser, both of North Liberty; one brother, Russell Schrader of Albuquerque, NM; three step-daughters, Nina (Andra) Batie of Arizona, Penni (Jim) Helminger of Illinois and Ella (Don) Walls of North Liberty; three stepsons, Chuck (Jill) Holmquest of Plymouth, IN, Donald Holmquest of South Bend and Marty Holmquest of Arizona; and 11 step-grandchildren. One brother, Delmore Schrader, and one step-grandson, Donald Walls, Jr., preceded in death.

 

Mr. Schrader served with the United States Army in the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

 

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will take place with burial following at Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
