Sister Marie Celine Schuette, CSC, 91, of St. Mary’s Convent died Friday morning in the convent. Born Feb. 13, 1901 in Quincy, Ill as Frances Regina Schuette, she entered the Congregation of Sisters of the Holy Cross Feb. 4, 1926. Received as a novice Aug. 15, 1926, she professed her final vows on Aug. 15, 1928. She was a teacher in secondary schools, including the former St. Joseph Academy, St. Mary’s Academy and St. Joseph High School.

 

She was director of admissions at St. Mary’s College from 1961 to 1966, principal of St. Mary’s Academy from 1968 to 1942. Director of personnel of St. Mary’s Convent from 1972 to 1974, and supervisor of Queen of Peace Convent, St. Mary’s from 1974 to 1989, retiring to St. Mary’s Convent in 1989. She also taught in schools in California, Utah, Illinois and Anderson, Ind.

 

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Convent parlors, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Church of Loretta, Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of the Holy Cross, Ministry with the Poor Fund
