Sister M. Florence Clare CSC, 84, of Saint Mary’s Convent died at 1 p.m. Sunday in the convent after a lengthy illness. She was born Florence Genevieve Schutte on Jan. 28, 1896 in Danville, Ill., and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on Jan. 6, 1920, after coming from Chicago. She was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1920 and professed her final vows on Aug. 15, 1922. As a nursing sister, she served in hospitals under the auspices of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in Anderson, Ind.; Fresno, Calif.; Boise, Idaho; as well as in schools in California and Utah. She also worked at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend. She had resided at St. Catherine’s Convent in Ventura, Calif. before coming to our Lady of Holy Cross convent in 1975. She stayed there a short time before coming to St. Mary’s Convent where she remained until he death.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, with burial at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call today and until services Tuesday in the St. Mary’s Convent parlors, where a wake will be observed at 7 p.m. today.
