Benjamin Sconiers

Dec. 23, 1926 - April 21, 1998

South Bend Tribune 4/25/1998

Benjamin Sconiers was the youngest child born on Dec. 23, 1926, in Bellwood, Ala., to the late Dan and Louvenea Sconiers. Benjamin was also a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy. He departed this life at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, at Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital, Duluth, Ga.

Benjamin was united in holy matrimony to Louise Chapman in 1947, and to this union six children were born. He was a proud and devoted father as well as grandfather.

Realizing the need for Christ in his life, he became an active member of Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ in South Bend, Ind. He was willing to do whatever was needed for the works of the church. During his dedicated service as a Saint, Benjamin worked on the Deacons Board, Home and Foreign Mission and in the Bible Band Department. He also drove the church van to assist with providing transportation for others. After many years of living in South Bend, Benjamin and Louise decided to relocate to Duluth, Ga., where they could spend their final years closer to their children.

Mr. Benjamin Sconiers leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Louise Sconiers; four daughters, Mary Sconiers-Chapman of Des Moines, Iowa, Joanne Ardoin, Carolyn McGuirt and Yolanda Sconiers, all of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Woodrow Sconiers of South Bend; two brothers, Matthew Sconiers of Titusville, Fla., and Sam Sconiers of South Bend; two sisters, Sarah Hutchinson and Martha Matthews, both of Bellwood, Ala.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin, Jr., and by three brothers and a sister.
