Maryvon Scott

Maryvon Scott, 77, of Crestwood Boulevard, South Bend, Ind., died peacefully at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, in her home. She was born on July 9, 1925, in Pulaski County, Ind., to John and Catherine (Hepp) Kientz.

 

On May 10, 1947, in Winamac, Ind., as Maryvon Kientz, she married Francis J. "Scottie" Scott. Scottie survives along with a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Howard McKeever of Angola, Ind.; and three sons, and their wives, John and Kathy Scott of South Bend, Jim and Christine Scott of Angola, and Joe and Diane Scott of Dayton, Ohio. Maryvon is lovingly remembered by her 11 grandchildren, Zach, Megan, Chris, Kelle, Brad, Amy, Blair, Derek, Ben, Molly and Michael.

 

She graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, Ind., where she received her registered nurse's diploma. Maryvon retired in 1999 after 10 years of service as a registered nurse at St. Francis Convent in Mishawaka, Ind. Early in her nursing career she had worked at different nursing homes in South Bend. She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church for 44 years, and was active in the Cancer Support Group of the church. Maryvon volunteered for Hospice of St. Joseph County for 15 years and five years at the Center for the Homeless. In 1999 she and her husband "Scottie" were bestowed the honor of "Volunteers of the Year" for their service to the community.

 

The Mass of the Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, in Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood, South Bend, IN 46635, with Rev. Charles J. Lavely, C.S.C., officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today in the narthex of Little flower Catholic Church where a eulogy service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the Center for the Homeless, 813, S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, is in charge of arrangements.
