Sharon Ann Scuzzo, 58, passed away in her home in the presence of her husband and children on Monday, Jan. 27, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Sharon O'Brien on Nov. 28, 1944, in Spokane, Wash., Sharon graduated from Holy Names Academy and attended Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif. She had spent most of her adult life in the South Bend/Niles area.

Sharon was a loving and dedicated wife and mother, married to Dr. Vincent Scuzzo in 1985. Sharon celebrated life with an overwhelming commitment to faith, family and community. After a successful career as an advertising sales manager at WSBT-TV, she committed herself to making a better life for those around her as a civic leader and philanthropist. Sharon approached everything she did with passion and resolve. Her life was a blessing to her family and all who knew her.

Sharon is survived by her beloved husband, Vince; children, Jeff (Leslie) Petersen, Greg (Kristi) Petersen, Sue (Jeff) Knott and Robert (Gail) Petersen; stepchildren, Tina (Tim) Hassler, Teresa (Dan) Johnson and Lisa (Bill) Glenn; and by 15 adored grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters, Mary O'Brien, Sally O'Brien and Maureen O'Brien. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eunice Phillips O'Brien; and by her father, Robert McCarthy O'Brien. In service, she found love. In loving, she found peace.

Family and friends called from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 30, in the St. Joseph Chapel at Holy Cross College on 933 North. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. The family graciously requests that, rather than flowers, memorial contributions be made to the charity or cause of the donor's choice.
