Charles E. Searvogle, Sr.

Feb. 27, 1927 - June 4, 1997

Charles E. Searvogle, Sr., 70, of Homewood Avenue, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, in his residence, with his family by his side who he loved dearly. Mr. Searvogle was born on Feb. 27, 1927, in Waupun, Wis., and lived in this area most of his life. Mr. Searvogle also had a summer residence at Cass Lake in Middlebury, Ind.

 

On March 20, 1958, in Granger, Ind., he married his loving wife, the former Marian L. Bakeman, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Kim Daniels, Ruth (Richard) Hesser, all of Mishawaka, and Kathy (Terry) Glassman of Portage, Ind.; four sons, Charles E. Searvogle, Jr., of Mishawaka, Leo (Yvonne) Searvogle of Dallas, Texas, Richard (Betsy) Day and Gordon (Carol) Day, all of Mishawaka; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Marie Searvogle of Mishawaka.

 

Mr. Searvogle was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member and past chief of the Viking Club, a member of the V.F.W. Post 360 in Mishawaka, American Legion Post 308 in Osceola, Ind., and a member of the Mishawaka Eagles. Mr. Searvogle served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, and he received the American Theatre Victory and the Asiatic Pacific Metals, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and served on the PT Boat that took General MacArthur off the Philippines.

 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Jack Thompson, pastor of the East United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Garden, Osceola. Military rites will be at the graveside. The family will receive friends from noon today until the time of services at 1 p.m. Mr. Searvogle's family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437.
