Hubert C. Selis, 87, of Miller's
Merry Manor, Wakarusa, Ind., formerly of West 12th Street,
Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 7:58 p.m. on
Sunday, July 25, in Miller's Merry Manor. Mr. Selis was born on
Oct. 16, 1911, in Stekene, Belgium, as the son of the late John
and Elodie (Van Marcke) Selis. He was preceded in death by
four brothers, Omer, Charles, Frans and Leon; and six sisters,
Mary, Margaret, Adelaene, Anna, Bertha and Alice. On Aug. 26,
1933, in ZuLu, Ind., he married the former Gabriel DeLaruelle,
who preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 1979. On July 22, 1980, in
Mishawaka, he married the former Amelia Cittadine, who
also preceded him in death on May 3, 1994. Mr. Selis is survived
by a daughter, Virginia "Ginny" (William) Cole
of Mishawaka; a son, Dr. Robert (Julie) Selis of San Diego,
Calif.; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Laura Minne of
Mishawaka. Mr. Selis was employed by Dodge in Mishawaka for 22
years and retired from the State of Indiana. He was a member of
St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Mr. Selis was a member of
the B-K Club, Mishawaka, the DiAmici's Club and the Moose Club.
He was also a member of the Elks Club.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where wake prayers will be at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Entombment of cremains will take place at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osceola, Ind.
