South Bend – Mrs. Margaret Sergio, 76, of 1121 E. Colfax, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday in Lodi, Calif., after a two month illness. She was born Jan. 8, 1902, in Plati, Italy, and had lived in South Bend since 1928 coming here from Italy.

 

As Mary Zappia, on May 1, 1924 in Italy, she married Paul A. Sergio, who died Feb. 4, 1972. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Donald E. Kotoske of South Bend, and Mrs. Joseph J. Muhlheer, Mrs. Donald E. Hunneshagen and Mrs. Gene H. Mulhleer, all of Lodi; two sons, Anthony P. and Joseph P. both of South Bend, and 24 grandchildren.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Wendell C.S.C., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

 

Friends mat call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to orphans in Italy.

 

Mrs. Sergio was a survivor of a 1906 earthquake in Italy and the sinking of the Andrea Doria. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Deloreta Club of Mishawaka and the St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Societies.
