Mary Doloris Shanahan

Mary "Dee" Doloris Shanahan, 73, of Berkley Circle, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, in her home. Mrs. Shanahan was born on Feb. 8, 1926, in Logansport, Ind., as the daughter of the late Wiley F. and Rose (Wilma) Baker.

 

On Dec. 29, 1950, in Peru, Ind., as the former Mary Baker, she married Charles Dutrieux, who preceded her in death in February 1963. Then in 1966 she remarried to Paul Shanahan in South Bend. He preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1986. Mrs. Shanahan was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Dean in 1970; and by a sister, Geraldine Baker. Mrs. Shanahan is survived by a daughter, Barbara Young of Mishawaka; two grandsons, Charles W. Young and Aaron R. Young, both of Mishawaka; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Wiley R. (Dixie) Baker of Logansport.

 

She had been an area resident since 1950. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Logansport, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1167 of South Bend, American Legion #161 of Mishawaka, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Mishawaka, and the Ladies Elks Club #235 of South Bend. She also organized the euchre games at the Mishawaka Knights of Columbus. Primarily a housewife, Dee worked part time at a factory in Logansport and at the South Bend Post Office.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Entombment to follow in the Riverview Cemetery LaSalle Mausoleum, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made to the Basilica of Notre Dame.
