SOUTH BEND - Jean Christine Shanklin, 96, of South Bend, passed away February 4, 2008, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Born May 25, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Jovana Pavesic. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Leonard Kunzler and Russell Shanklin. Survivors include two sons, Robert (Mary) Kunzler of Florida and James Kunzler of Granger, IN; a daughter, Kathryn (Larry) Job of New Hampshire; a sister, Mary Winkelman of Evergreen Park, Ill.; a brother, Raymond Pavesic of Oaklawn, Ill.; four grandchildren, Robert Kunzler, Katherine Carr, Elisabeth and Lauren Job and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Kunzler. Jean was known for her bright smile and cheerful personality. For years she entertained friends and family with her famous cooking and baking. She was an enthusiastic gardener, a sharp card player, and a meticulous embroiderer. Cremation will take place.

 

A memorial Mass will be held at Saint Paul's Retirement Community, 3602 S. Ironwood, South Bend, on Friday, February 8, at 12:30 p.m. A reception for friends and family will follow the Mass at Saint Paul's. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. The McGann Hay Funeral Home has been assisting the family with arrangements.
