Chad S. Sharon, 18, of Pelican Lake, Wis., was pronounced dead on Feb. 12, 2003. Chad was a freshman at the University of Notre Dame. He was born on July 28, 1984, in Merrill, Wis., to Steve and Jane Sharon of Pelican Lake. Surviving with his parents are Chad's paternal grandfather, James (Jean) Sharon of Pelican Lake; his step-grandfather, Tom Seidlitz of Merrill, Wis., and several aunts and uncles.

Maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Mildred Borchardt and maternal grandmother, Mildred Seidlitz preceded him in death.

Chad was a graduate with the class of 2002 at Merrill High School where he was the recipient of the Anson Scholarship. The annual scholarship awards the recipient with a full grant to attend the University of Notre Dame, South Bend. He was studying engineering for his major. Chad served as the Senior Class President as well as Student Council President. He was a member of the National Honor Society as a junior and senior and served as the organization's leader. Chad was a member of the Math League for four years during his high school tenure and served as the first student representative to the Merrill Area Public Schools Board of Education. He was the co-editor of the publication, "Creating in Nature": and served as D.A.R.E. role model. He was named a Youth Optimist of the Month for December 2001. He had also worked on the stage crew for plays and musicals at the high school. Chad served the elderly in the community with yard care and household tasks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, computers and helping people.

Services in Merrill, Wis., will be as follows: Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Bible Presbyterian Church, 1605 Highway G., Merrill, Wis. Memorials services will follow at 1 p.m. in the Bible Presbyterian Church.

Services in South Bend will be as follows: Visitation with the Sharon family will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Lady Chapel of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. A memorial mass will be held at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 in the Basilica of the Sacred heart, Notre Dame.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chad S. Sharon Memorial Fund, Department of Development, 111 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
