Harold J. Shayler

Harold J. Shayler, 71, of Clay Street, Mishawaka, Ind., died after an illness at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, April 17, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind. Harold was born in Gibson Township, Mich., and had lived in this area since 1945. He worked for 35 years as a route salesman for Kuss Bakery and six years at Nickles Bakery in Elkhart, Ind., where he retired in 1986. He then drove school bus for two years for Mishawaka School City. Harold belonged to Elks Lodge 235, was past president of the Mishawaka Evening Exchange Club, and was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. Harold married the former Leona I. Tate in South Bend on Nov. 24, 1945. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Sharyn (Phillip) Schemahorn of Mishawaka; a son, Randy Shayler of Cazenovia, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Brian (Joanne) Schemahorn, Randy Shayler and Nicholas Shayler; a sister, Madeline Grinnell of Perry, Mich.; and by two brothers, Fred Shayler of Prescott, Mich., and George Shayler of Shipshewana, Ind.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 20, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Peter Lutheran Church, with Rev. Kenneth Mangelsdorf officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
