Rev. Edmund S. Shea CSC, 65, died at 5:30 a.m. today in the University of Notre Dame infirmary after a short illness. Father Shea had taught in the Modern Language Department of the university from 1954 to 1973, when he was named professor emeritus of the department. Holding a PhD degree from Harvard University in romance languages, he also had taught in the Holy Cross Seminary, Notre Dame; King’s College, Wilkes Barre, Pa.; and Stonehill College, North Easton, Mass.

 

Born Nov. 12, 1908, in Oak Park, Ill., he entered the Holy Cross Seminary in 1922 and was ordained on June 24, 1935. Surviving are a brother, William of Berwyn, Ill., and three sisters, Sister Miriam OSU, and Mrs. Thomas Nichol both of Oak Park, and Mrs. John Tierney of Glen Elys, Ill.

 

Friends may call from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Corby Hall Chapel, Notre Dame, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Notre Dame. Rev. Lawrence Grainer CSC will officiate and Rev. Charles Sheedy will be the homilist.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Community Cemetery, Notre Dame.
