Arthur W. Shidaker

May 6, 1921 - March 21, 1999

Arthur W. Shidaker, 77, residing on Lake Shore Drive, Lake of the Woods, Bremen, Ind., passed away from natural causes at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, at the Mariner's Hospital in Tavernier, Fla.

Mr. Shidaker retired in 1983 as a supervisor at the Kreamo Bakery in South Bend after 30 years. Prior to this he worked at the former Reliable Dairy of South Bend and the Fertile Acres Dairy in Lakeville, Ind.

Mr. Shidaker was born on May 6, 1921, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Arthur J. and Margaret Rose Shidaker. A grandson, Andrew Calvin, also preceded his grandfather in death on Feb. 13, 1994. He had been a lifelong area resident, wintering in Key Largo, Fla., for the past 14 years.

On June 11, 1949, in Lakeville, he married Carolyn Baker, who survives.

He is also survived by three daughters, Patricia Gardner of Teegarden, Ind., Pamela Calvin of Lakeville and Peggy Shidaker of Knox, Ind.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Pearl Shidaker of Lakeville.

Mr. Shidaker was a United States Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Lakeville Lions Club, Order of the Eastern Star in Lakeville, a 50-year member and past master of Lakeville Masonic Lodge #353, F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, American Legion of Lakeville, and attended Pine Creek Church of the Brethren in North Liberty.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 26, at the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren. Rev. Norm Replogle, pastor of the church, will officiate. Military graveside services and burial will follow in City Cemetery, Mishawaka, Ind.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, at the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, Ind. There will be a Masonic memorial service held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
