Wilbur L. Shindledecker

Wilbur L. Shindledecker, 76, residing on Rowantree Place, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 7:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in Cambridge House, Warsaw, Ind. He retired from the Bendix Corporation, aircraft division, after 35 years of service. He was born May 26, 1926, in South Bend, to Lester and Mary (Cornell) Shindledecker, and had lived in this community all of his life.

 

On June 18, 1949, in South Bend, he married JoAnn Schott, who preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 1997. Mr. Shindledecker is survived by a daughter and her husband, Kristine and Al DeMeyer of South Bend; two sons and their wives, Gary and Cindy Shindledecker of North Liberty, and Michael and Geraldine Shindledecker of South Bend. Also surviving are six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great-grandson, and one brother, Lester Shindledecker of Florida.

 

Mr. Shindledecker served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 284, South Bend, and of the VFW.

 

There will be no visitation, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Wilbur L. Shindledecker may be made to the American Heart Association, 2410 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, South Bend, is handling arrangements.
