Delmar I. Shirk

January 16, 1908 – May 3, 1988

 

Delmar I. Shirk, 80, of 56937 Crumstown Highway, died Tuesday morning in his garage.  County police are investigating the death as an apparent suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.  Dr. Lawrence Curry, deputy coroner, was expected to make a ruling in the death.

 

Mr. Shirk retired in 1970 from the Bendix Corp.  He was born January 16, 1908, in Marysville OH, and lived in South Bend most of his life.  On June 25, 1927, in South Bend, he married Gertrude Scope, who died in 1967.  He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Trillo of Jennerstown PA; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three sisters, Nellie Braun of Marysville, Trudy Lutteri of Lake Worth FL, and Donna Collins of Penn Valley CA.  A daughter, Carol Bonczyski, died in 1984.

 

Services will be at 11am Friday at Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S Ironwood Drive, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Thursday.  Burial will be in Sumption Prairie Cemetery.  Mr. Shirk was a member of Modern Woodmen and Bendix Senior Management Club.
