Julia E. "Betty" Short, 89, of New Carlisle, Ind., formerly of Lydick, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in the LaPorte Hospital. Julia was born on November 25, 1916, in Peoria, Ill., to John and Helen (Tengerdy) Toth. She was a homemaker, and had been formerly employed with Studebaker Corporation and the O'Brien Paint Company.

 

On January 5, 1941, as Julia E. Toth, she married William B. Short, who preceded her in death on February 13, 1982. Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Irene, Johanna, and Helen; a brother, John; and a grandson, Tony Weiger.

 

Survivors include three sons, Jerry (Sue) Short of Elko, Nev., Dan (Pat) Short of New Carlisle, IN, and Dave (Ruth) Short of South Bend, IN; a stepdaughter, Maureen (James) Weiger of Mission, Texas; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. There will be no procession or committal service. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Julia was a member of the United Pentecostal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Humane Society, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Her family meant everything to her.
