BREMEN - Thomas Simon Jr., 79, died at 8:46 a.m. Thursday Oct. 25 in Community Hospital of Bremen.

 

He was born on November 24, 1927, in South Bend to the late Thomas and Ethel (Baker) Simon Sr. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Joshua Thomas; and a son-in-law, Jim Rader.

He was a loving father and grandfather and a devoted husband. He was a World War II US Army veteran. He was a Tapper operator for RACO in South Bend, retiring in 1990 after 45 years. He lived in South Bend moving to Bremen in 1992. On July 3, 1976, he married Betty Tavernier in Mishawaka. She survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Terrie (Stan) Lisek, Tina Rowe and Chara (Terry) Findley, all of South Bend, Billie Jean (Mike) May of Virginia and Tammy (Mac) McCarter of Rochester; sons, Larry Thomas Simon and Russell (Sheryl) Duckwall, both of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Marlene Lisek of Mishawaka; a stepson, Bill (Claudia) Surguy of South Bend; a sister, Joyce Wesolowski of South Bend; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a son-in-law, Mark Gustafson of South Bend.

 

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, with Rev. Jim Morse officiating. Burial will be at Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Marshall County or Community Hospital of Bremen.
