SOUTH BEND - Robert E. ''Red'' Simpson, 74, of 5027 Greenleaf Lane, died at 11 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr. Simpson was a former parts salesman for the trucking industry and also was a salesman for Knapp Shoes.

He was born Jan. 7, 1921, in South Bend. On Aug. 30, 1947, in South Bend, he married Marjorie Ruth Elsea. She survives with a daughter, Sandra Sue Hoctel of Norwalk, Iowa; two sons, James W. of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Thomas R. of New Carlisle; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Lawrence A. of Summershade, Ky. He was a member of Monson Chapel United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 50, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1167, and South Bend Mens Bowling Association, where he was a board member. He was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
