Virginia B. Singleton

Sept. 18, 1934 - Oct. 17, 2002

Virginia Bell Singleton, 68, of Bristol, Ind., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away of an illness on Thursday, Oct. 17, in Elkhart General Hospital.

Virginia was born in Annapolis, Ind., on Sept. 18, 1934, to the late James Lanty and Hazel Maude (Adams) Jones. She was married on Dec. 20, 1952, in South Bend, to Lester "Pete" Singleton, who passed away Nov. 1, 1985. She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her five brothers and two sisters, Mildred M. Woodrum, Clifford H. Jones, Dwight L. Jones, Harold L. Jones, Vivian L. Vanhook, Roy D. Jones and Jerry L. Jones; and by a granddaughter, Karla Lynn Singleton.

She is survived by three daughters, Rita (Rick) Jones of Bristol, Cindy (Rod) Gilleand of Mishawaka, Ind., and Karen (Roger) Leighton of Bristol; five sons, Karl of Mishawaka, Leslie "Fred" (Debbie) of South Bend, Lester (Peggy) of Mishawaka, Steven (Mary Helen) of South Bend and Darryl of Goshen, Ind.; 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and by three sisters, Inez L. Dillon of Mishawaka, Elva L. (Gerald) Conard of South Bend and Rosalie E. Landis of California.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road at Ironwood, with Rev. Gregg Brasel officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in McGann's.

Mrs. Singleton was a member of The First Church of the Nazarene on North Ironwood Road, South Bend.
